It has been a whole two months since I started this blog, and life is getting more hectic. How do other bloggers do it? Do they even have jobs and families? You will notice my sporadic posting in December and early January due to the many family obligations and parties going on. Plus, we are completely reorganizing our house.
One of my goals this year is to better understand my audience and post better suited articles to meet your needs. That is why I am starting a declutter challenge! Most everyone has an issue with clutter at some point, and we have reached the point where we want to tackle ours.
You can join us on our declutter challenge by signing up below! It will be both depressing and invigorating to see how much junk we have accumulated in just 6 years in this house. And by joining us, you can declutter your house and make the most of the stuff you do have.
If you are just now dropping in to the blog, you can check out some of the introductory posts or check out last month’s monthly update. If you are a follower that still (somehow) likes the things I write, from the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU! Everyone who comes to this blog gives me a little bit of encouragement to continue putting my thoughts down. And if I help just one person along the way, this blog will be worth it.
If you have not had a chance to subscribe and want to keep up with what we are doing here in 4D Frugal land, do so now at the bottom of the post or in the right sidebar. You can choose which portions of the blog on which you would like to get updates. We will not bombard you with emails, and your feedback is always appreciated.
Our December 2017 spending on Monkey
Now, on to the good stuff – how much money did we spend on Monkey in December?
I encourage each of you to start keeping track and determine where you can begin to save money.
If you have not yet read it, head over to this post and read about how to keep track of your spending on your children. If you would like more explanation on the expenses below, you can go to this post and check out how we calculate and determine each category.
So now, the big reveal! In December, we spent $948.32 on Monkey, most of which was daycare. See the full outline of spending below.
December 2017 Spending
|Spending Category||Nov 2017 expense||Dec 2017 expense||Notes|
|Total||$919.99||$948.32||Even though Christmas was in December, we did not spend too much more than November.|
|Health Insurance||$39.32||$58.98||There were 3 pay periods in December.|
|Utilities||$63.49||$78.89||Brrr. December was cold.|
|Transportation||$14.44||$16.05||15 days going to daycare plus 3 days we took him to the doctor.|
|Food||$69.00||$53.51||We spent less on groceries this month, but Monkey did get his own meal at Chick-Fil-A once.|
|Diapers/Wipes||$0.00||$12.00||We bought flushable wipes to have on hand for potty training. Wish us luck!|
|Toys||$14.85||$0.00||We didn't buy anything outside of Christmas gifts.|
|Clothes||$0.00||$1.00||Monkey got a new hat to keep his ears toasty warm. We bought it at the Dollar Tree, and it is wonderful.|
|Dr. Appointments||$80.00||$30.00||We had to take Monkey to the doctor twice this month, resulting in two co-pays|
|Medicine||$0.00||$22.00||Monkey got an antibiotic plus Motrin and Tylenol. We thought he had the flu but it was just a bad cold.|
|Gifts||$0||$30.00||Most of his Christmas presents were purchased well before Christmas. This is just what we bought this month (including socks and training underwear and some bath toys, among others).|
|Other||$0||$7.00||Gifts for his teachers and classmates.|
December was ended by a huge Christmas celebration, which, for many people, means spending a ton of money on their kids. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can spread the spending throughout the year, or budget well for Christmas, or both, like we do. Make sure you stay within budget. And read this post to find the best way to get the most value out of your kids’ new gifts.
December 2017 blog update
Things slowed down a bit in December. Some of that has to do with my not posting as much in December. Some of that may be people who started on the blog in November decided this blog was not for them. But some people stuck around (and some new people came), and it still made for a pretty great month!
Did you know we went NUDE in December?!?
So how are things looking?
- There were 179 unique visitors to the blog (438 total).

- 3 people came through an email I sent.
- 1 person made it to the blog through a search engine.
- I have no idea why these add up to 184 and not the 179 reported unless a few people came through a couple of different avenues. Maybe…
